UAZ Roller Hockey club team wins National Championship!
On Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Auburn, Maine, the University of Arizona's Roller Hockey club team defeated Michigan State University to capture the Division 2 National Championship in a 7-2 victory. After being down 2-0 in the first period, the team came roaring back with 7 unanswered goals. They also dominated the shots on goal with a decided advantage of 32-14. The win marks the first national championship in the sport in school history.
Coming off a 13-2 regular season, the team went 6-0 to win the tournament. To get to the tournament, they raised their own money, some of which came from gofundme.com. Club President Jackson S. said "The key to winning is communicating early and often. The more effort, the closer the group and people come together."
Student Employee of the Month for April
Congratulations Josh!
Congrats to Josh for being our Student Employee of the Month sponsored by NOCCO! The Massachusetts native might be far away from home, but he has settled in nicely to UAZ and Campus Recreation. Josh has been working here for 2 years and is a Student Coordinator for Sports.
So far, Josh has had the opportunity to referee at Regionals for Basketball and was one of the top 3 referees! He then was invited to referee at NIRSA Nationals for Basketball and one was of the top 25! Refereeing has been a huge part of his life as he participated in high school, which eventually led him to joining Campus REC. His favorite part is being able to talk to the players and presenting himself in an approachable manner in case there’s any questions. He loves interacting and getting to meet new people. In the future, he wants to become an NBA referee or a director of a sports organization. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Josh!
